“Oh, and we meet again!” I hear a voice from behind me and whip around, facing Tim.
“Tim? Huh, yeah. I didn’t expect to see you — well anyone — here.” I grin and he smiles.
“Same. Usually this range is empty. Are you into archery too?” He asks me with a cute little smile.
Okay, first off, I HATE archery, it’s aimless and stupid and hard. I was just here to pick up Nora from her practice at this huge range. It’s full of big targets and endless paths that lead into the forest stretching back to her school. But he’s so adorable and I assume he’s into archery since he asked. Ah well, this is only the second time I’m meeting him, probably won’t again. I mean, I do have a bit of time before Nora gets done. And jeez, is it always this cold in Dandywolg? I thought Nora was living in paradise. Ah well, I’ll be out of here soon anyway.
Oh god, he’s looking at me funny now, what do I say?
“Alia?” He waves a hand in front of my eyes.
“Yeah, sorry, I zoned out for a minute there.” I stare down at my boots.
“No problem. So, do you like archery?” Tim asks again.
“I guess so, yeah,” I say with an averted gaze.
“Nice, I’m obsessed with it, we should have a small friendly competition sometime.” He smiles as I look back at him.
“Yeah, sure.” I find myself captivated in his deep brown eyes, feeling hypnotized.
“So what’s your number? That way we can meet and talk on purpose instead of accidentally, what do you think?” He smirks.
“Totally.” I grin, still gazing at him. He finally meets my eyes and our eyes stay locked for a few moments.
“So what is it then?” Tim chuckles.
“Oh, uh, right.” I break eye contact with him, startled at how hard it is, and give him my number.
“Great.” He types into his phone and my ringtone goes off. “Now you have mine.” He smiles.
“Yeah, I do.” I find my eyes wandering back to his and instead I try to focus on his other features. Like his scruffy brown hair, his golden smile, and his perfectly straight jawline, but I just find myself looking back into his eyes. Getting lost in them, as he locks eyes back with me.
“You have charming eyes by the way.” Tim reaches his hand towards mine and I let my fingers interlock with his, while staying locked in his eyes. Wow, his hands are super soft, way more than mine.
“Thanks, you have very captivating eyes.” My thoughts spill out into words. Shoot! I shouldn’t have said that! Why am I holding hands with a stranger . . . What’s going on?
“You want to grab dinner, maybe get to know each other?” Tim asks in a hopeful tone.
“Only if it’s a date.” I smirk, hand still interlocked in his. What the heck is wrong with me?
“Perfect, I’ll pick you up around seven? Text me your address beforehand.” He grins and our hands split.
I break eye contact and shuffle my feet. “Yeah, that works. Looking forward to it.”
He waves and leaves the range. I can’t believe I just said that. This is what, the second time I’m meeting him? We barely know anything about each other and I just agreed to a date with him. This is crazy.
I can’t tell Nora; she knows I always choose the people I date after knowing them for a few years. This is definitely not me — did I get possessed? Yes, yes I did. Tim possessed me, and there’s no going back. I’ve fallen in love. Maybe love at first sight does exist. Let’s just hope it doesn’t backfire terribly on me.
