Each year, Redwood Literary Magazine invites eighth graders at Berkeley public middle schools
to submit pieces for publication in our May issue.
Emerging Writers are guided through the revision process by experienced Redwood writers.
The deadline for this year's submissions is Friday, March 22nd, 2024 at midnight.

SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS:
You may submit one piece of either fiction (300-700 words) or poetry (150-250 words).
Your submission must be your own original, unpublished work. Please note that Redwood does not publish violence, threats of violence, sexual content, or cursing.
From your students.berkeley.net email account, please fill out this form by the deadline — ensuring all fields are accurately filled out:
1) My first and last name:
2) My Berkeley public middle school (King, Longfellow, Willard, or Berkeley Independent Study):
3) "I'm currently in eighth grade." (Only eighth graders are eligible.) Please click "yes" to confirm:
4) My English teacher's name:
5) The kind of writing I’m submitting — either fiction (300-700 words) or poetry (150-250 words):
6) The title of my submission:
7) "If my submission is accepted, I must complete the guided revision process and meet all deadlines in order to have my piece published." Please type "yes" if you understand and agree:
Then please attach your piece at the end of the form and ensure [email protected] has access to it through the "share" feature on Google Docs.
Redwood has final say on all procedures and published material, though writers may, for any reason and at any time, remove from Redwood’s website (including its archive) any or all of the pieces they have written (including any reference to those pieces, and to them as author), any listing of them on any masthead, and any other reference to their participation.
