There was once a girl who believed in dreams
She felt with every bone in her body that dreams
(If given the right amount of attention)
Could be more than the wishes of an ignorant child

This is what made her keep going
When she spoke to the moon about her dreams
While the others spoke to each other
She was dreaming of a life that would take her away

One that would sweep her off her feet
And throw her into a universe where space was never too far away
A life of adventure and joy and sorrow
A life that wasn’t just (ordinary)

She wanted to go on adventures with her soul
Climb mountains until she was so close to the breath of the universe
That she could swim with the stars

She was marveled at
She was called at
For having such
Bold
Ideas

She’s a dreamer (they marveled). She’ll grow out of it (they said).
But why (thought she)
Would I want to stop looking up at the sky
And start looking down at the dirt?

She’s a dreamer (they scorned).
But still
She took flight

There’s a defiance in being a dreamer (she called down to them),
Before the stars engulfed her
And she became one of a million
But the one that got away
